Born in Jakarta on 11 July 1951 - 2011.


Krijono was born into a family with an artistic background. His father was an art collector who used to own the Harris Art Gallery, while his mother owned a Batik factory. He received his first formal training in art at Sekolah Tinggi Seni Rupa Indonesia (Indonesia College of Fine Arts) Yogyakarta. He travelled to Japan, Belgium, Australia, France and Thailand. In his trip to Tokyo, experiment on different mediums including batik, oil, and acrylics, he even fused traditional paintings and kimono paintings as a batik combination.


After holding a number of batik exhibitions in Europe, he returned home to Jakarta and for a time dropped out of the art world. He returned in 1982 with his first solo exhibition featuring works depicting women.


Krijono differentiated himself with his signature brightly-colored compositions. His expressive and flamboyant works have been exhibited extensively around the world, including Italy and Paris. When Krijono moved to Ubud in Bali, he transformed his style to a strong, modern expression, and full of colors, reflecting the Balinese surroundings.


The artist passed away at the end of November 2011.
